A young Saker Falcon (Falco Cherrug), looking at his own reflection in the water. They're very large as adults, up to 47-55 cm high with a wingspan of 105-129 cm.
Saker Falcon's are the national bird of Hungary and known as Turul in Hungarian mythology; a mythological bird and messenger of god, who sits on top of the tree of life along with the other spirits of unborn children.
Unfortunately the species global population has undergone a rapid decline particularly in area of its central Asian breeding grounds. Following this decline its Red List status was upgraded to Endangered in 2004.
An assessment by Birdlife International and the IUCN concluded that the Saker Falcon faces a very high risk of extinction in the wild and Birdlife International estimates that the global Saker Falcon population has undergone a decline of between 53-75% over three generations (15 years) with an estimated global population of only 3,600 to 4,000 pairs remaining in 2006.

He was looking at the water and grooming himself as far as I remember, it's been while since I took this picture (I'm trying to catch up on hundreds of pictures I haven't yet reviewed ).
A beautiful close up shot. Such a tragedy they are in peril of extinction. I have a great many neighbors I would gladly offer up in their place.LOL

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
